Zerg Strategy Ideas Explained in Detail
The Zerg race in Starcraft 2 is not the most popular race in the game. While a large number of players choose either Terran or Protoss races, you don’t often see Zerg playing against you. Most of my Battle.net games as Zerg have been matched against the other two races and Zerg vs Zerg is a rare match.
The Zerg race is just as powerful as the other two races in Starcraft. Though, due to the lack of understanding of Zerg units and the specific ways in which they can and should be used, many players believe it is the weakest race in Starcraft, which is hardly true.
Players who believe that Zerg is the weakest race don’t realize that while all races in the game are well-balanced (though, they may not realize even that), ultimately the game is designed with great room for personal strategy improvisation and creativity.
The human aspect of the game, where an attempt is made to defeat the opponent by outsmarting him using human behavior (harassing or manipulating by revealing certain buildings or actions to fool the opponent into thinking you’re doing something you’re not, etc.), also plays a great role in helping to win the game aside from the tactics governed by the general design of the game.
Playing as Zerg in Starcraft II is fun and in the hands of a skilled player can cause major devastation to the opponent. Below you will find several insights about the Zerg race units which, I hope, will help you improve your Zerg strategy and become better at playing Starcraft as Zerg.
Zergling Rush
-
The Zerg race has the fastest rush in the game. In the right hands, a zergling rush strategy can be skillfully executed to break into a Protoss base early on in the game. Breaking into a Terran base with a Zergling rush is nearly impossible when you are matched against a skilled player capable of building a proper Terran wall on the ramp leading to his base.

The 6-Pool Zerg Strategy
A strategy commonly known as 6-pool rush implies that using only the first 6 drones given in the beginning of the match, the player will focus on gathering 200 minerals, immediately proceeding to morph one of the drones into the Spawning Pool. The 3 larva, that should become available by that time are used to spawn 6 zerglings which will immediately head toward the opponent’s base.

Spreading the Creep
The Zerg creep is used for several things. It makes your Zerg units move faster when they are positioned over the creep making long-distance travel much quicker, especially for units such as Hydralisks, which will move slow on bare ground.
It’s interesting to point out that neither Terran nor Protoss can build structures over Zerg creep. We can use this knowledge to our advantage and spread the creep specifically toward the base expansion areas on the map.

Using Banelings
Bushes located throughout the Starcraft 2 maps are wrongfully thought of as a map ornament, a decoration or a simple area on the map adorned with useless doodads to make it look prettier. Especially by an inexperienced player. However, the bushes play an important strategic role.

Roach Strategies
Roaches are extremely effective and versatile units (especially after late-game upgrades are researched)
Sometimes in the midst of a battle it’s normal to get tense and anxious. But it’s a very bad habit of an inexperienced Terran player to forget about their lowered supply depots. Why? Because buried Roaches can get in. Roaches can travel underground with the Tunneling Claws upgrade, which also requires a Lair.

Below are listed some of the strategies related to Zerg
Defending against Zergling Rush as Terran
Defending your Terran base from an imminently incoming zergling rush is not very difficult because a Terran player actually has many options for dealing with this situation.
Some of these options use light units such as marines and supply depots, other solutions will take advantage of a heavy unit such as a Siege Tank in the siege mode. Two or more Hellions behind the supply depots can be used. Four marines in a Bunker can be used just as effectively.

Defending against Zergling Rush as Protoss
Protoss will absolutely hate the fastest zergling rush. Why is that so? Walling in is not that simple for Protoss players as it is, for example for Terran. Terran can wall off with Barracks and a couple (or a few) supply depots. These supply depots can be lowered, but when walling the entrance to their base, the Protoss is likely to want to have an actual opening in the wall which almost defies the reason for calling it a wall.
